All our pairings are chosen specifically to best match not only the pedigrees but also their given personalities and traits.
This intimate knowledge allows us to give the resulting puppies the very best chance of being better with every generation.
We are totally devoted to the care and raising of all our puppies to the best of our ability, and as such there may be a wait between your enquiry and a potential match puppy.
Our focus is on producing the best individuals that we can do, and matching them with (hopefully) their forever place!
Once we have a potential match puppy, you will get 'behind the scenes' access to everyday life here at Westmac via a dedicated Facebook group.
This will give you regular pup-dates to watch how the litter is raised, and also to network with the other owners and us a lot more closely.
Our modern, well appointed and custom built whelping facility really is the best!
This provides a wonderful safe space for our beautiful bitches and their litters to grow and develop in both comfort and peace!
We bring all the socialisation of home into an easy to clean and comforting environment, so it really is the best!
Our Socialisation programme is extensive, and far too intricate to fully be explained in this tiny box...
So read more in the section below!
Sometimes, life just has other plans!
But if ever your Westmac cannot stay with you forever we will always be committed to help.
All Westmac Puppies are sold with a contract allowing them to be returned to us if the worst does happen, so responsible breeding is our aim!
From Day 1 our puppies are seen as entirely unique and are given coloured collars in order to track their progress and allow owners to follow them accurately.
This identifying of individuals also allows us to track their weights accurately and ensure they are all thriving and growing to their absolute true potential.
There's links to early traction in the whelping den, and later issues with things like Hip Dysplasia (although they are important it's not all in the genetics!)
We use vet bedding and highly tractive surfaces to ensure puppies can move about easily and get adequate traction to give the best start.
Our Whelping room is fully designed to be easy to keep clean, and we use top quality virucidal disinfectants and hot water washes of bedding to keep the environment safe for developing immune systems.
All our puppies are extensively handled right from Day 1. All our brood females are well natured enough for us to do this, as it's very important we can keep a close eye on everyone and inspect them to ensure their health and wellbeing. We do early ENS type systems to get puppies happy and relaxed to handling.
As soon as their eyes and ears start opening we begin introducing a multitude of sounds and tracks designed to give early exposure to stimulus such as fireworks, traffic, applause and more.
We have an Alexa thats always on to provide background noise, and this is switched to Classic FM every night at lights out to create a lasting link between Classic and comforting quiet time.
We like to allow our puppies to meet as many safe people and places once they are old enough to learn positive interactive skills. We have a number of safe people and places on our beautiful property to allow them to safely explore and learn all about the world!
We also introduce household items, surfaces, textures and smells too.
All our puppies are exposed to a multitude of positive interactions with our wonderful older dogs, in order to gain social skills and confidence with all manner of dogs other than their yummy mummies!
We regularly expose our litters to all manner of loud noises, to make sure that they are just a part of everyday life.
This includes gun fire on the shooting range not 2 miles away from us!
We also have a range of wonderful heavy garden machinery options, that our litters are exposed to once old enough, including leaf blowers, trimmers, large lawn tractors and even a golf cart!
We love to take each puppy individually for time away from all their siblings in order to assess their characters, work on specific traits and also develop them as true individuals. This includes toy place and hand feeding amongst a lot of other things.
We do weekly nail clipping, introduction to bathing and grooming, as well as brushing while the puppies are with us, in order to allow them to be familiar with all these things before they come home to you.
We like for puppies to learn to work for their food, in order to help to develop their working drives and also to learn that food is valuable and not just a 'readily available resource'.
This can help with ongoing training for sports or bonding over the resource of food as a reward when they come home to you.
All our puppies are very clean, and from week 3 are starting to be taught to mechanisms of toilet training.
We have a wonderful puppy lawn only for our litters (directly outside the whelping room) which allows us to get them up and out quickly after eating and sleeping so that toilet training is almost guaranteed to be a breeze with your Westmac puppy when they come home to you!
